The CPP Patriots, a group of Nkrumaists dedicated to the revival of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) for the 2008 elections, on December 23, 2006, joined party officials to commission the Krowor (Nungua) constituency office in the Greater Accra Region. The office was paid for by the Patriots and refurbished with funds from personal donations from some of its members as well as contributions from the constituency.

Dr. Gborbilor Fleischer, chairman of the Greater Accra office of the CPP and a member of the Patriots, who cut the tape to the new office, emphasized the importance of self-reliance. “We cannot depend on others to do our work for us. We have to do it ourselves,” he said. He encouraged the constituency executives to make full use of the office by registering new members in the Krowor Constituency.

Mr. Eric Benyarko, chairman of the Patriots, reiterated the regional chairman’s sentiments, comparing the office to computer “hardware” and noting that it would be useless unless the constituency installs the “software” made up of party education, membership drives, and regular meetings to strengthen the organizational structures of the constituency.

The constituency chairman, Emmanuel Borketey, promised to work hard with his fellow executives to put the office to full use. He said both the NDC and NPP have failed Ghanaians and that the “CPP is the only alternative left for Ghana.”

Also present at the ceremony were the national organizer of the CPP, Kwesi Akoto; representatives of the Volta Caucus of the CPP; the Eastern Regional Chairman of the CPP, Nana Owusu Sekyere, who couldn’t hide his admiration of the “youthfulness of the crowd”; the CPP Parliamentary candidate in 2004, Mr. Theophilous Boye, as well as solidarity guests from the New Patriotic Party.

A total of one million cedis was collected among the guests and donated to the Krowor constituency as “seed money” for a bank account for the constituency.

The Patriots are expected to commission 12 offices in Eastern Region as well as the Regional Office for Ashanti Region in January 2007. An outreach team is already preparing for the northern part of the country for the commissioning of more offices in 2007.
