PRESS RELEASE-September 7, 2011
*“Hon. Samia says the CPP will field a Presidential Candidate for the 2012 General Election”*
The attention of Hon. Samia Nkrumah’s Campaign Office has been drawn to a calculated attempt by some persons in the CPP to misinform CPP delegates to the forthcoming Special National Congress to elect national executives. The misinformation reads, “if Hon Samia Nkrumah wins the chairperson position and leader of the CPP, the CPP will not field a presidential candidate for 2012 General Election”
Contrary to the above, the Hon. Samia Nkrumah has stated on numerous occasions that the CPP under her able leadership will be reorganised and strengthened at all levels to enable the CPP to field strong and credible presidential and parliamentary candidates for the 2012 General Election and beyond. It is the belief of Hon. Samia Nkrumah that for the CPP to be independent and effective as a political party, we must compete in all general elections.
Hon. Samia Nkrumah has stated that focusing on the work on the ground in our constituencies leads to more MPs and a greater number of votes for our presidential candidates. It is worth noting that the Jomoro Constituency gave our 2008 Presidential Candidate the highest number of votes. Almost 10,000 votes came from that constituency alone.
In any case, the decision to field a presidential candidate or a parliamentary candidate for any elections does not and should not reside with the leader of the party alone. It is a decision for the Central Committee, National Executive Council and a national Congress as the final authority in matters such as this. Hon Samia would like to assure all CPP members, sympathizers and delegates that under her leadership, these party structures will be the main vehicles for taking decisions in the party and that no individual shall arrogate to themselves the power to take a decision on fielding a presidential candidate. Transparent and accountable leadership is what Hon. Samia Nkrumah brings to a renewed and credible CPP ready to serve the people of Ghana.
The decision before delegates at the forthcoming Special National Congress of the CPP slated for September 9-10, 2011 is to choose a new leadership which will allow us to increase our numbers and present ourselves to the nation as a credible alternative. Let us use the winning example of the Hon. Samia Nkrumah as demonstrated in Jomoro to move forward.
A vote for Hon. Samia Nkrumah means a Vote for CHANGE, RENEWAL AND PROGRESS
FOREWARD EVER, BACKWARD NEVER
LONG LIVE THE CPP, LONG LIVE GHANA
