CPP Shuns NPP Forever

The Convention People’s Party (CPP) will not enter into an electoral alliance with the NPP in the 2004 elections. The Chairman of the Party, Dr Abubakar Alhassan says the break with the NPP is not a nine day wonder.

The CPP supported the NPP in the 2000 Presidential run-off. The NPP government thus appointed one of its (CPP) members, Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom as Minister of State.

But in answer to a question, Dr Abubakar blatantly said ''the days of alliance with the NPP are over. We are building an independent Nkrumahist party that can stand on its own against any other force in the country''. He said ''the NPP programme has failed.

The Kufuor administration is not capable of leading Ghana out of this crisis. It fundamentally lacks an understanding of our economic and social realities''.
