The United Kingdom and Eire branch of the Convention Peoples' Party held it annual Regional conference on the 18th November 2007. At this meeting, there was a vacancy for the position of the General Secretary of the branch, which in the Constitution is accorded regional status. Kwaku Nkansah, an IT specialist was subsequently elected as the General Secretary of the party. The Chairman, Nii Armah Akomfrah welcomed the General Secretary, saying that Kwaku Nkansah had contributed to the party in the UK and Eire within a very short time, as Assistant Secretary, and hoped he would continue to do more, because as one goes higher, in terms of office within the party, the expectations from members become higher.

Kwaku Nkansah, in his acceptance speech, gave thanks to all who had assembled and told the conference that a lot needed to be done to redeem the party's fortunes. He continued that the party, in order to be able to govern the rank and file of its membership must be even more disciplined, look to include more women in the higher positions as they have proven to have special potentialities that will bring in more gains and also focus on increasing membership, the lifeblood of the party. He indicated that mass mobilization is the only answer to increasing the membership and that no one should expect victory to just happen. Victory will only come through hard work, dedication and sacrifice. He also said that the CPP back in Ghana, which is working hard must do more and the UK branch will do all in its power to help the mother party back home.

Kwaku Nkansah called for all those CPPists, both in the Council of Elders and outside the party to re-dedicate themselves to the cause and become even more active , to help with the re-emergence of the party and to help push forward an agenda, that will help improve the lives of Ghanaians and Africans, adding that the current government of the Kuffour-Led National Patriotic Party has not lifted the lives of Ghanaians, have been a very clear disappointment to all Ghanaians and that Ghanaians should unite in voting them out. “We must renew our pledge to Africa and the African, help in revamping the AU and leading the cause to better the lives of Africans”, He added.

He said the CPP is the only party that understands what Ghana needs to develop and that Ghanaians must focus on the CPP Record , giving Ghana its most prized assets. “We can do more, if you vote for us”.
