Ho, Feb 25, GNA- Mr Kosi Dedey, Chairman of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) Publicity Committee, has called on Ghanaians to reject any military adventurer who would try to truncate the current democratic dispensation.
He made the appeal in a statement issued in Ho, to mark the 42 years of the overthrow of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, first President of Ghana, on 24 February 1966.
According to the statement, the day was commemorated with prayers and bon fires last Saturday under the auspices of the Ho-Central Constituency executives of the CPP at Ziavi in the Ho Municipal area. Mr Dedey said that coup "marked a significant turning point in our quest for democracy, good governance and respect for the rule of law" and triggered other putsches "which have brought hardship and bitterness to many in Ghana and Africa."
He said the ceremony was to remember those who died during the takeover and demanded that their memories be immortalized. Mr Dedey said "We the CPP wish to call on the sitting government and all other political parties who uphold the letter and spirit of the 1992 constitution to join the CPP in honouring these men and women who lost their lives defending a constitutionally elected government or fell victim to over zealous soldiers."
He called for the return of assets of the CPP seized in the wake that coup.
