CPP comes alive in Tamale

It was a defining moment of a resurgent sleeping political giant. And the setting was Tamale, the Northern Regional capital; once a strong constituency of the Convention People’s Party (CPP).

Within the three days that the Presidential Candidate of the CPP, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom and the 1st National Vice Chairman, Dr. Abu Sakara toured the Northern Region, the Tamale story was enacted in almost every other Northern area that he visited.

These were Mion, Yendi, Saboba, Chereponi and Damongo in the West Gonja District of the Northern Region.

The Northern Region tour was part of a nationwide programme to thank delegates who elected Dr. Nduom at the December National Delegates Congress of the CPP to lead the party in the December 8, presidential election.

He also used the occasion to interact with key stakeholders in Ghanaian politics. They included traditional rulers, religious leaders, market women, the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and other identifiable groups.

For close to two hours, Dr. Nduom and his team which included National 1st Vice Chairman, Dr. Abu Sakara and National Treasurer Mike Eghan, had a hectic time wading their way through a highly ecstatic crowd that had come to welcome them outskirt of Tamale.

The crowd met Dr. Nduom’s team with 17 horn tooting Benz-buses; five well decorated horses; donkeys; hundreds of motorbikes and a large crowd of people that surged forward at the least opportunity to either wave or shake hands with Dr. Nduom.

By conservative estimate the journey from where the people met Dr. Nduom to the Tamale township, was close to 22 kilometers.

Amid brass-band music, the crowd, mostly youth sung and danced deep into night with some of the older folks shedding tears as they reminisced the good old days of the CPP.

While most of the youth hung around the vehicles they traveled with, others sat and perched perilously at the top of their vehicles. With clinched fist and the victory sign they cried out for change.

“We have seen both the NDC and the NPP, we should also try the CPP”, Amadu Tanko cried out amid thunderous applause from colleagues and other members of the crowd. Dr. Nduom responded by waving back at the crowd with broad smiles.
