Accra, May 15, GNA - Mr Ivor Kobina Greenstreet, General Secretary of the Convention People's Party (CPP), on Thursday condemned the Mr Freddie Blay, First Deputy Speaker, for openly declaring support for an opposing flag bearer.

Mr Blay, CPP Member of Parliament for Ellembelle, was alleged to have declared support for the Flag Bearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

"The declaration was an unacceptable behaviour, and a breach of Article 77 of the Party's Constitution and a flagrant violation of party discipline," Mr Greenstreet stated in a paper to the Ghana News Agency in Accra.

He said the Party would institute immediate investigations into the conduct of Mr Blay for the necessary action to be taken. Mr Greenstreet said for the avoidance of doubt, the CPP wished all Ghanaians to be aware that the Party would not enter into any alliance with either the National Democratic Congress (NDC) or NPP prior to Election 2008.

Meanwhile, some leading members of the CPP have questioned the Party's position as Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom, the Flag Bearer, also called on the CPP members in 2004 to concentrate on winning more parliamentary seats, as according to him, the Party was not favoured to win the 2004 Presidential Election.

Dr Nduom, then a Minister in the NPP-led Government, urged the membership of the Party to work hard to win the hearts and minds of the new generation of Ghanaians and asked its Leadership to close their ranks to evolve more pragmatic campaign strategies to enable them to win more seats in parliament.
