The Convention People's Party (CPP) congratulates Mayor Sadiq Khan on becoming the Mayor of London.
His success is a clear sign of a rejection of Tory Policies of racism and religious discrimination in London.
His plans to build 80,000 new homes a year ,establish a London Living Rent, freeze London transport fares for four years, work with employers to make London a Living Wage City, close the gender pay gap and provide extra support to women are all policies that will benefit ordinary people in London.
This election in London sends hope to progressives and vindicates people centred policies in development. The CPP wishes to identify with Sadiq Khan's victory and we express our solidarity with the policies of the Labour Party for the people of London.
Policies that threaten to destroy key public services, deepen poverty, whip up racism must be resisted globally.
The victory of Sadiq Khan and his Labour Party questions the development policies of our country that has had negative impact on the prosperity of our people. These include policies of fiscal austerity, the retrenchment of labour, the reduction of the capacity of the state to create jobs and the contraction of our national economy amidst rising poverty.
Change against such policies will require the intervention of the state in a transformation of our colonial economy that lacks the capacity for global competition. The required change is the development policy prescription of decolonisation of a CPP government to change the structure of our economy.
We look forward to continuing to work with the Labour Party and its supporters against anti- people and harmful policies globally.
We congratulate the good people of London in their victory.

Nii Armah Akomfrah
