.... challenges him to explain to Ghanaians how he became a member of the party that overthrew his father

The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has taken the son of Ghana’s first President Dr. Sekou Nkrumah to the cleaners over comments that the National Executives of the party are living in the shadows of their founder, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah instead of working assiduously to redeem the political image of the party.

According to Dr. Sekuo Nkrumah, the performance of the CPP at election is a mockery of Nkrumah’s legacy and it belittles his memory. He added that the launch of the CPP’s manifesto is a total waste of time and until the party detaches itself from the ‘Nkrumaist mentality’ it will continue to face electoral defeat.

However, General Secretary of the CPP Ivor Greenstreet tells Gold News that Dr. Sekou Nkrumah’s statements are unfortunate.

“I believe that the whole of Ghana have been witnesses to the conduct of Dr. Sekuo Nkrumah and they have observed his behavior within the National Democratic Congress and his somersault into the New Patriotic Party. Most people have observed the erratic nature of his comments”.

He expressed disappointment in Dr. Sekuo Nkrumah for calling a party of his own father and currently run by his sister as a backward political party. This according to him is an unfortunate remark adding that Dr. Sekou Nkrumah should be reminded that the CPP was overthrown in 1966 and its name was banned for so many years, and that It was only retrieved just before the year 2000.

Ivor Green Street however accepted that the party had had poor electoral result for the past years but promised that there is room for improvement.

He emphasized that this “does not mean that the party should not issue a manifesto explaining how its ideas are relevant to Ghana”.

He challenged Dr. Sekuo Nkrumah to explain to Ghanaians how he somersaulted to the very party that overthrown his father.
