Takoradi, July 22, GNA- Mr Samuel Gordon Etroo, Western Regional Chairman of the Convention People's Party (CPP), has said the call by majority of Ghanaians to return the CPP to power in the 2008 General Elections is causing a lot of panic among the two leading parties. He said the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the largest opposition party the National Democratic Congress (NDC) are panicked over the gradual progress of the CPP.

He therefore called on supporters, sympathizers and other party faithful to commit resources and rally behind the party to wrestle power from the NPP.

Mr Etroo was addressing the Western Regional Consultative meeting of the party at Takoradi.

The meeting, which was attended by some leading members of the CPP and the Patriots, was to facilitate plans for the ward, constituency and regional elections scheduled for mid-August. The presence of the CPP Patriots was also to inspire the regional executives to work harder than before to revive the existing structures and also galvanize support for the party.

Mr. Etroo advised the supporters to put the past behind them and forge ahead in unity to win the 2008 elections. He noted that Ghanaians would be very much disappointed if the bickering, undermining and other negative tendencies normally associated with CPP during elections rear their ugly heads again. He urged the supporters to contribute to the party since "we are all stakeholders."

The three presidential aspirants of the CPP Professor Agyeman Badu Akorsah, the former Director of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Kweku Osafo, an Economist and Mr Bright Akwetey, a lawyer were introduced to the supporters amidst a thunderous applause. They three aspirants took turns to address the meeting with all of them touching on commitment and contribution of resources as well as loyalty to the CPP.

Professor Badu Akorsah advised all workers, women and the youth to throw their weight behind the CPP since according to him the CPP is a mass party, which transcends all tribes. He recounted the diabolic plans of the party's enemies to dismember and make it dysfunctional over the years, adding that the mere fact that the CPP is still in existence shows that it is a real force to reckon with.

Both Dr. Osafo and Mr. Akwetey reiterated Mr. Etroo's call for mobilizing resources. 22 July 07
