CPP to launch manifesto

Accra, July 18, GNA - The Convention People's Party (CPP) will launch its manifesto on Tuesday, July 22 in Accra. The manifesto, which is based on the unbridled CPP principles of Equity, Social Justice, Rule of Law and Pan-Africanism, would be launched by the party's flagbearer, Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom under the theme: "New Dawn, New Vision".

A statement issued by the campaign team of Dr. Nduom said the party's 10-point agenda, which had become the handbook of the flagbearer was an integral part of the manifesto.

The highlights of the 10-point agenda include the creation of just and disciplined society, reforming of state institutions to meet the challenging trends of modern day governance and reducing the size of government.

It includes the sponsoring of amendments to the constitution to enable election of all District Assembly members, the strengthening and sponsorship of changes to abolish aspects of the constitution that allow Ministers of State to serve as Members of Parliament and quality free and compulsory education for all Ghanaian children from Kindergarten to the Senior High School.

The statement said other speakers at the function would include CPP Chairman, Ladi Nylander, leading member Professor Agyeman Badu Akosa, Manifesto Committee Chairman and Prof. Nii Moi Thompson. It said that the auctioning of the manifesto would be done by a representative of the UK branch of the CPP with support from other party executives.

Members of the CPP Council of Elders as well as some leading personalities in the Nkrumaists family like Alhaji Asoma Banda, Lt. Gen. Emmanuel Erskine, (rtd) Professor George Payin Hagan and others would grace the occasion.

Representatives of political parties and the Diplomatic Corps, as well as identifiable groups like the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), the Trades Union Congress (TUC), Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) and the Ghana Private Road Transport) are expected to attend the launch.

Institutions like the Institute of Economic Affairs, Centre for Democratic Development, Friedrich Ebert Foundation and the academia are expected to send representatives to the programme.
