CSA establish educational fund

Accra, April 6, GNA - The Civil Servants' Association (CSA) has established a two billion Ghana Cedis Educational Fund to enable members access loans for the education of their wards, Mr James Amissah, Acting Executive Secretary of the Association, said in Accra on Monday. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview, Mr Amissah said, it would be a revolving fund with interest on each loan, but did not say how much.

He said it is anticipated that for a start about 4,000 applicants pursuing courses at all levels of education would be considered. He said two committees have been inaugurated to work on modalities for the sourcing of the loan, adding that, the committees would decide whether the administration of the fund would be centralized or decentralized.

Mr Amissah said the decisions would be subject to the National Executives' approval, adding that, the idea is to relieve members from stress from 'Shylock' money lenders. "We do not want our children to play second fiddle to anyone," he said and urged members who would be fortunate to get loans to ensure that their wards use their time profitably by studying.
