Nkoranza (B/A) Feb 15, GNA - Seven persons in Nkoranza District of Brong Ahafo have since January died of cerebro-spinal meningitis, Mr. Peter Paul, district surveillance officer told Ghana News Agency at Nkoranza on Thursday.
He said the deceased were among 10 other persons who were affected by the disease and the remaining three are still on admission at St. Theresa's hospital in Nkoranza.
The surveillance officer named the communities of the affected persons as Kranka, Akuma, Kyeradeso, Nkwabeng, Akumsa-Domase and Nkoranza.
Mr. Paul however, said the Nkoranza district health management team was vigorously undertaking a mass immunization exercise in the communities to contain the situation.
He appealed to people in the district to respond positively to the exercise, noting that the victims who died either indulged in self-medication or attended orthodox medical centres and only rushed to the hospitals when they had complications.
Mr. Paul advised the people to seek medical attention at the hospitals when in need to save their lives.
He commended the medical officers at St. Theresa's hospital for their quick attention to the affected persons and advised that any one who developed pains in either the neck, the waist or the head should immediately report at the hospitals for attention as they could be symptoms of the disease.
