Final year students of junior high schools (JHS) across the country have begun registration for placement into senior high schools (SHS).

The exercise is being undertaken under the auspices of the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS).

Speaking on the exercise on TV3’s Midday Live on Monday, February 10, 2014, George Atta-Boateng, the National Coordinator of the programme, said since its introduction in 2005, the system has been “hugely successful” to the extent that “private schools are coming for some of these students”.

“It is 99.9 per cent successful,” he emphasized, saying the few challenges has been the rejection of selected schools by students.

He said the system selects schools for students based on performance but in a case where students don’t get the schools of their choice, they blame the programme for wrongful placements.

Mr Atta-Boateng asked parents to get involved at this stage so that the hurly burly during the placement stage can be avoided.

He added that before finalizing the placements, the secretariat will ask students for confirmation of their choices.

He projected that registration will done with by the end of this month.

Mr Atta-Boateng noted that this year, students will have their images on the placement forms as part of innovations being introduced into the system.
