The Police in Assin-Fosu have appealed for more public support to tackle the surge in cable theft in the town, the capital of the Assin-Central Municipality.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) John Cofie, the Municipal Crime Officer, said stealing of electricity cables had become more pronounced in the area over the past couple of weeks.
The worst hit areas include Bantema, Roman Hill, Habitat, Pantuase, Nkansa, Breman.
He told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that churches and schools had not been spared the crime and said the Fosu Anglican Mission, Lighthouse Chapel International and Affutuakwa Primary, had all been affected by the criminal activity.
DSP Cofie gave the assurance that everything was being done to arrest the culprits and bring them to justice.
He, however, asked the inhabitants to remain vigilant and to have the courage to report suspicious characters to the police.
The way forward to effectively fight crime, he said, was for the people to provide timely and useful leads to the police to apprehend the miscreants in the society.
