Calgary Ghana SDA church is officially organized

Ghanaian Seventh-day Adventists take church planting seriously. This is a command from the Lord which is embedded in the gospel commission that Christ gave to the church before He ascended to heaven. And Ghanaians have always obeyed this directive and sown the seed of Adventism in foreign lands whenever and wherever they settle as pilgrims.

Sabbath May 31, 2014 was a unique day for Ghanaian Adventist immigrants who have recently settled in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. On this day the officers of Alberta Conference of SDA church officially organized the Ghana Calgary Adventist fellowship into a company with the challenge to them to be the salt and the light of the world. Also they are to use their lifestyle to witness and bring many into the Seventh-day Adventist Church as Christ would have the redeemed to do.

For the past two years the few Ghanaian Adventists in this oil-rich Canadian province developed a deep passion to share their faith and bring the Adventist gospel to those who have not come to serve the Lord. They started coming together and sometimes met in the homes of some of the members to study the Bible, pray and also to plan various ways of bringing awareness to Ghanaians in Calgary who have not as yet have an encounter with Christ and the Adventist unique teachings. The Alberta Conference of SDA Church also provided all the necessary support to help nurture the fellowship. They helped them find a mother church, gave them an interim shepherd (pastor), provided some global mission seed money and assigned Pastor Don Corcum, the Alberta Conference director for church planting to coach the fellowship with the aim of helping them achieve growth within a short possible time. Such collaborative church planting initiative has paid off good dividend with an accelerated growth. The accelerated church growth is what has culminated the organization of the fellowship into a company status. The Alberta Conference Executive Secretary, Pastor Larry Hall, in his inaugural sermon encouraged the members not to lose focus on their mission of spreading the truth to other Ghanaians who live in and around Calgary. He said, “This is your mission field as God’s people and such responsibility cannot be neglected to the detriment of God’s work.” Pastor S.K. Twumasi who represented the North American Ghanaian Adventist Organization leadership and Elder Daniel Oteng who also came from the Toronto Atwell Ghanaian SDA Church tasked the members to emulate the other Ghanaian Adventist churches across North America to work hard in unity and move toward full church status within a short time. They are also to plant Ghanaian churches in the nearby towns and cities around metro Calgary. Other Ghanaian Adventists in Edmonton and the nearby cities also came to offer support and solidarity. Representatives of Calgary Ghana Presbyterian and Calgary Ghana Restoration churches were there to make donations to the new company. 47 baptized members signed in as charter members of Calgary Ghana SDA Church. The company is under the leadership of Elders Yaw Adjei (403-590-2177), James Owusu-Appiah (403-870-3006), and Kingsley Manu (403-966-0540). The group meets at Suite 102, 3863-54th.
