The Ghana Arise for Peace (GYPA) has commended former President John Mahama for welcoming a call by President Akufo-Addo for all political parties to disband vigilante groups.
The group also asked the former president to demonstrate sincerity and willingness in the fight against political vigilantism in the country.
Below is their statement
FORMER PRESIDENT JOHN MAHAMA'S ACCEPTANCE OF THE PRESIDENT'S CALL TO END POLITICAL VIGILANTISM: A HEALTHY BLOCK IN THE ARCHITECTURE OF PEACE.
With a heart that plays host to excessive joy and happiness, Ghana Arise for Peace ( GYPA) has welcomed the news of former President John Mahama's acceptance of His Excellency the President's call on the various political parties to bid a final farewell to political vigilantism in Ghana.
Our joy takes its breath from the fact that, GYPA after severally calling on the various stakeholders whose words carry weight within the polity to add their voices in the call to take out the last oxygen that aids the breath of violence in any form, has finally yielded the needed dividends.
Whiles welcoming this healthy news, we want to believe this is not going to be the usual lip service that defines such calls.
Measures must be put in place to ensure that indeed political vigilantism and all its other siblings have no residential permit in our political discourse.
We are also appealing to the national peace council which is seen as neutral interlocutor in this journey of peaceful coexistence, must live up to their billing and ensure that there is no negotiation in this path to peace.
GYPA 's doors are always open wide for broad consultation from stakeholders towards this healthy exercise. As peace ambassadors, we are prepared to laise with the various stakeholders to drum home the loudest the message of peace to the nook and cranny of the country.
Let's all contribute our quota in maintaining peace on our motherland so posterity may not have the cause to roll out a harsh judgement on us.
LONG LIVE GHANA, LONG LIVE GYPA.
Thank you.
