There are calls on the John Dramani Mahama government to look into the National Alternative Employment Livelihood Programme for illegal miners.
As part of efforts to fight illegal mining, the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo launched the Alternative Employment Livelihood Programme for illegal miners.
The Programme was meant to provide an alternative source of livelihood after the government stopped illegal mining in various mining areas in the country.
At the launch, experts indicated it will cost the state about $10 million.
Even though some funds were sunk into the programme, it seem not to have yielded the needed results the government was expecting.
A doctoral researcher who is passionate about climate change and has insisted several times on the need for the programme to be investigated reminded the president-elect, John Dramani Mahama, to investigate the programme.
She indicates that the programme has seen loads of funding but has not experienced the change which was expected of it.
“The NDC should look into the National Alternative Livelihood Employment Programme for illegal miners. $Millions of climate change funds & monies went there yet little to no show,” her post read.
