The Campaign for Female Education (CAMFED) has celebrated the successful completion of its beneficiary young girls from secondary education and officially inducted the students into its alumnae network called CAMFED Alumnae Association (CAMA).

The induction provided guidance to the young women on their career and life choices as they entered another stage of their lives following the successful completion of secondary education.

The CAMFED network operates in 31 districts in Northern, Upper West, Upper East and Central regions with a chapter in Greater Accra.

The induction was on the theme: "Time to celebrate, Time to look into the future".

The beneficiary students gained various forms of support and CAMFED that included: payment of school fees, living expenses, books, daily stipends, transportation, mentoring and counseling and "The MasterCard Foundation Scholars and Bursary Programmes".

Under the Bursary Programme, selection of beneficiaries was carried out through an extensive assessment at school and at community level.

It includes home visits to meet young girls and their parents or guardians. The selection process brings out exact challenges each girl may be facing, so that the appropriate support can be provided.

CAMFED Programme Officer, Mr Martin Rex, said Non-Governmental organisation envisioned a world in which every child was educated, protected and valued to grow up.

He said as part of efforts to tackle poverty and inequality Camfed mission was to multiply educational opportunities for girls and empower them to become leaders of change.

"Camfed provides the necessary support to girls and young women in and outside school in their quest to become leaders and reinvest the benefits of their education to improve the educational, economic and health status of their own communities", he said.

CAMA Ghana currently has over 27,000 members and total of 5,747 secondary school leavers who would be inducted into the network this year.

Madam Humdalatu Ali N-Nyiah highlighted the need for parents and guardians to invest their energies into productive ventures and change their mind of depending on men for survival.

She changed the graduates to obey the existing societal norms as that was required for one to be successful.

Mrs Saudatu Mohammed Danladi, Founder of Life Again shared her past experience with the graduates as the 13th child of 16 children of her parents.

She said life was difficult, when her parents divorced saying that, luck fell on her way when she was linked to Camfed sponsorship of her education which brought her dreams into reality.
