Following public revelation by the Vice President, Mahamudu Bawumia that new mansion under construction to house Ghana’s Vice Presidents is costing the country close to 14 million dollars; Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram Samuel George Nartey has dismissed the claim describing it as a mere propaganda.
The former Presidential Staffer said it is time the Vice President switch from campaign mode.
“Our Vice President should know the campaign is over and stop churning out untruth. It is almost a month since he assumes the role as Vice President and one would have thought that he carries himself as such but not a running mate. I plead with him to stop peddling untruth, Our Vice President is a practising Muslim.”
Dr. Bawumia, who was discoursing on a wide range of issues at the launch of Action Chapel International’s Good Corporate Governance Initiative in Accra on Tuesday, paused briefly to talk about the cost involved in the construction of the official residence, which was being put up by the erstwhile Mahama administration.
The Veep indicated among many things that the project was too costly by any standard, questioning whether the blocks for the building as well as the gate are made of gold, saying the new mansion under construction to house Ghana’s Vice Presidents will cost the nation a staggering 13.9 million dollars.
However, the figure given by the Vice President was sharply disputed by the MP for Ningo-Prampram who minced no words in describing the claims as a lie, untruth, unholy and unjust.
He told the host of Onua FM morning show Bright Kwesi Asempa that the Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia had inflated the original cost of the project for a reason best known to him.
Asked what the original cost was, Samuel George said he cannot be specific but can recall that the figure was around the region of 5.8 million dollars.
“He should give us the breakdown of the cost he is giving not just a blanket statement, he should give us specifics. The Vice should respect the office he is occupying so that we accord him with such respect. He should have got the details of the project before coming out; I think it is just propaganda. The campaigns are over Mr. Vice President,” Sam ‘Dzata’ George maintained.
