The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection has launched the national campaign on disability-friendly public places.

The campaign is aimed at creating a more inclusive and equal society for persons living with disability (PWDs). It also seeks to increase public awareness on developing disability-friendly facilities.

Speaking after the launch, sector minister Nana Oye Lithur said legal actions would be taken against public places which fail to comply with the directives after consultations.

According to her, work was underway to develop the Ghana Standards on Accessibility Designs document. The document will provide standards for designing disability-friendly buildings.

“Together with the Ghana Standards Authority, we are developing standards which will tell you (contractors) exactly how much in terms of the concrete, the gradient, and everything and they have finished the final draft but are left with the architectural drawings, so by September this will be ready,” she said.
