Senior Political Science Lecturer at the University of Ghana, Legon, Prof. Alidu Seidu has opined that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will face a herculean task in marketing the newly appointed running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, to floating voters ahead of the upcoming December 7, 2024, general elections.

The Professor, who is the Head of the Department, maintains that it is obvious the NPP will struggle to mobilize votes from individuals who are not staunch members.

According to the Professor, the perception of arrogance associated with the Manhyia South lawmaker poses a dire consequence on the fortunes of the party since Ghanaians have registered his comments regarding the dumsor timetable in their minds.

In an interview with Joynews' Raymond Acquah, the political academician expressed concern over the daunting task ahead of the NPP, considering the limited time left until the December 7 elections.

Professor Seidu said, "We have just six months until the elections. Yes, you can convince NPP supporters that 'this is not how Napo is. A few people have worked with Napo, and they know that these are perceptions and that Napo is not like that.'

"But for the people outside the NPP or even those within the party who haven't fraternized with him, how long will it take them to change their perception?" he questioned.

He further pointed out, "And many people have been referring to the recent 'dumsor,' which has angered a lot of Ghanaians because 'dumsor' has affected their work, businesses, and personal lives."

However, NPP National Organiser, Lawyer Henry Nana Boakye, dismissed assertions that NAPO is rude.

Speaking on Peace FM's Midday News on Friday, July 4, 2024, Nana B maintained that no person is perfect; however, the competencies, boldness, and assertiveness of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh are what some misconstrue as arrogance.

"I have worked closely with him, so for me, I see a lot of confidence in him. I see someone who is committed and dedicated to his work, someone who has the energy to always turn things around.

"As for me, I have said that Napo's confidence, assertiveness, and competence make people think he is arrogant. His work ethic is top-notch, making him the most effective education minister since independence. His ability to roll out the free SHS program is part of the qualities that make him outstanding."

"As a political party, we must sell the ticket to Ghanaians, and that is what we are going to do," Nana B said.
