Canadian University donates computers to UDS

The Okanogan University College in Canada, on Tuesday donated two computers and its accessories valued at 48 million cedis to the Medical School of the University for Development Studies (UDS) in Tamale.

The donation is to help UDS to intensify its Rural Nurse Practitioner Programme (RNPP) and accelerate learning and research at the Medical School.

Ms Jennifer Tucker, adviser to the Okanogan University who made the presentation, said Canada was interested in strengthening the base of nursing programmes in developing countries, adding that the University could assist students and tutors in diverse ways including research and fieldwork.

She said there had been an institutional linkage between Okanogan and UDS to strengthen and enhance learning and exchange programmes.

Ms Tucker also presented scholarship award to Ms Vida Yakong, who graduated from UDS with distinction to further her studies in Canada.

The Acting Dean of the Medical School, Dr Rowland Otchwemah received the computers, and said the items had come at a time when the medical school was in dire need of such facilities, particularly for fieldwork.

He appealed to the authorities of Okanogan to come to the aid of the Ghana Rural Animated Training (GRAT), a capacity-building programme based at UDS Navrongo campus to help the students with research and fieldwork.
