Cannabis found at Kotoka International Airport

Accra, July 13, GNA - A 25 year-old driver, Mustapha Wahab, has been placed in police custody in connection with cannabis weighing 251 kilograms found at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) in Accra by Customs, Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) officials.

The suspect is in police custody whilst the security officials are investigating the case.

Officials of CEPS told the Ghana News Agency that at 1345 hours on Sunday, July 12, a KIA pick up truck with registration number, GR 3810 Z driven by Wahab arrived at the export bay of the airport with 178 boxes of fresh green pepper for export.

They said a CEPS officer was suspicious when the goods were being discharged and decided to carry out random examination of the boxes. The officer then found dried leaves suspected to be cannabis in slabs hidden in some of the boxes.

They said upon examination, it was discovered that 122 of the 178 boxes, contained slabs of cannabis, with the remaining 56 boxes containing fresh green pepper.

Wahab was subsequently arrested. 13 June 09
