Central Region Football Association Chairman Robert Duncan has rubbished report circulating in the media that the Cape Coast Stadium is not in good shape to host Ghana’s AFCON qualifier against South Africa, insisting it is ready.

The Black Stars will play South Africa on November 14th, 2019 at the Cape Coast Stadium before traveling to face Sao Tome four days later.

Footballmadeinghana.com earlier reported the state of the pitch was not in good condition due to the absence of permanent groundsmen to take care of the pitch.

Speaking to Spice FM ahead of the game on 14th November, Robert Duncan denied the report insisting the pitch is ready to host the game.

“I don’t understand why we will use a pitch in a poor state for a Black Stars game.

“Same thing happened during the AWCON, people said the pitch wasn’t in good shape but it ended up hosting the tournament.

“Those people aren’t technical people, the pitch goes through a routine maintenance, the grass on the pitch is intentionally grown with fertilizer, so a time will come when we will do maintenance and shape the grass and not like a new stadium where everything is done afresh,” he added.

Ghana will host the Bafana Bafana of South Africa in the group opener of the 2021 AFCON Qualifiers and travel to Sao Tome and Principe for the second game four days later.
