Cape Coast University Has New Vice Chancellor

Rev Professor Addow Obeng has taken office as new Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast. Until his appointment, he was the Pro Vice Chancellor of the University and Head of Religious Studies Department. He took over from Professor Samuel Kwesi Agyepong, whose tenure as Vice Chancellor ended on September 30, 2001.

A statement issued by the University Administration said Rev Obeng is the first alumnus of UCC to occupy the high office of Vice Chancellor. He holds Master of Theology and PhD from the University of Aberdeen in the United Kingdom.

Meanwhile, Professor Kobina Yankah has been appointed Pro Vice Chancellor of the Universiy. He would formally take office on January 1, 2002. Prof Yankah is also an alumnus of the UCC and currently heads the Department of Zoology. He is also the Dean of Faculty of Science of the University and holds a PhD in Zoology awarded by the University of Wales in 1983.

The statement said with the appointment of Dr Sam Jonah, Chief Executive Officer of Ashanti Goldfields Company and Dr Charles Mensa, Resident Director of VALCO as Chancellor and Chairman of the University Council, a new team has been put at the helm of affairs of the university. The release said the new team is already evolving a new vision that will lead to the transformation of the University.
