THE DEAN of Students of the University of Cape Coast, Mr John Blay, has announced that, both continuing and aspiring students of the university would have an opportunity to taste campus life once they pass through the university.
He continued that, first year students would be in residence and can as such take advantage of the one year period to know their new environment and arrange for private accommodation for their second and third years.
Mr Blay made these comments when he was speaking to a section of the media in Accra last week on the new residential policy of the university.
The dean of students noted that, the new accommodation policy would ensure that, 50 per cent of bed spaces would be allocated to first year students.
The new residential policy dubbed "IN- OUT- OUT- IN" will be in full operation in the 2005/ 2006 academic year.
To be fair to students who have already stayed out of residence, Mr Blay said the authorities have decided to allocate 20 percent of available bed spaces to second year students and 30 percent to third years.
He used the occasion to thank landlords and other entities who have in various ways provided accommodation for students and appealed to them to charge rents that are negotiable with the facilities they provide.
He said the university is ready to provide lands for private developers who are ready to build hostels to bring the problem down.
He called on students and the general public to give the university their maximum cooperation
