Accra, Jan 15, GNA- Capt Kojo Tsikata (RTD), the National Security Advisor of the erstwhile Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC), is scheduled to give evidence at the National Reconciliation Commission on Monday, February 9.

Dr Ken Agyemang Attafuah, the Executive Secretary of the NRC, said the Commission had subpoenaed Capt Tsikata to give evidence in respect of a document Mrs Jemima Acquah, a witness, presented to the commission. The document, which was on the trial of the three high court judges and the retired army major, had mentioned that persons which the Public Tribunals tried and subsequently executed had mentioned Capt Tsikata, and former President Jerry John Rawlings as being involved in the conspiracy.

Dr Attafuah said the Commission was convinced that the evidence of Capt Tsikata and former President Jerry John Rawlings would be a vital material to the central issues being investigated in the petition of Mrs Jemima Acquah.

Mrs Acquah is the widow of the late Major Acquah.

The NRC Executive Secretary said since November 12, 2003, the Commission had been trying to serve a subpoena on former President Rawlings.

He said 11 witnesses at the Commission had mentioned former President Rawlings as having violated their human rights but the Commission had subpoena him only on the allegations in the document presented by Mrs Acquah.

Dr Attafuah said the Commission is dealing with evidence before it and that the impression should not be created that the Commission is making Flt Lt Rawlings its target.

He said he had no reason to suspect that former President Rawlings, who is currently outside the country, would stay outside because of the subpoena.
