YEN.com.gh has learnt that Maxwell Mahama, the Ghana Army captain who was brutally killed by a mob in the Central Regional town of Denkyira Boase, was the only son of his mother.
This was revealed by former president John Dramani Mahama in a Facebook post on Tuesday. Mahama said the late soldier was the son of Captain Chubby Adam Mahama, a retired army officer.
The former president added that the fallen soldier was the only son of his mother, as he commiserated with the bereaved family.
Captain Mahama's death has stunned the nation and triggered widespread calls for an end to the culture of so-called vigilante justice that leads some Ghanaians to lynch people they suspect to be thieves or those caught engaging in crime.
President Nana Akufo-Addo joined former president John Mahama and thousands of other Ghanaians in condemning the killing and condoling with the family of the deceased soldier.
YEN.com.gh earlier reported that Captain Mahama left behind a wife and two children.
On social media, Ghanaians resonantly called for an investigation into the crime.
