Accra, Feb. 26, GNA-The Accra Regional Police Command on Tuesday arrested four suspects in connection with a car theft at Nkrumah Circle and a stolen handbag at Dzorwulu in Accra.
The suspects are Jojo Djan, 19, Jacob Atiano, 21, Kofi Hene, 18, all drivers' mates who ply Pig Farm to Nkrumah Circle in Accra and Paul Mensah, 21, a driver.
They were busted by some residents of Pig Farm who suspected they were criminals. The handbag, a knife and a pair of jeans were found with them.
A complainant, Richard Debrah, driver of a KIA Pride taxi cab with registration number GR 2187 Z told the Ghana News Agency that he was driving around Circle-PTC area at 0200 hours on Monday when two of the suspects bordered his vehicle to Ebony Hotel at Kotobabi. He said a few metres away, the passenger on the front seat asked him to stop for his friend at the back to alight.
Mr Debrah said after stopping, he turned to watch the passenger alight only to realize that the man on the front seat had turned off his engine.
According to him, two other men suddenly came to the scene with knives and asked him to get out of the car.
The complainant said he immediately gave the car to them, walked home and reported the incident to the Kotobabi Police Station. Mr Debrah said he was later informed that his taxi cab had been spotted at Dzorwulu and he, in turn informed the Police of the development.
The owner of the handbag, Ms. Muriel Naa Ofeibea Dodoo, told the Police she was coming from her residence at Dzorwulu to work at 0630 hours on Tuesday when she was attacked by the suspects around the Dzorwulu Special School.
She said while on her way, she noticed that a taxi cab which was initially driving slowly behind her, suddenly sped off. Ms. Dodoo said she was suddenly attacked by men with cutlasses and kitchen knives and her handbag containing 14 Ghana cedis and other personal belongings was snatched from her.
DCOP Kwaku Ayesu Opare-Addo, Accra Regional Police Commander, assured the public that the Police would intensify its operations to clamp down all criminals disturbing peace in the city. He also warned criminals, especially those in the youthful ages to desist from criminal activities, else they would face the full rigors of the law when arrested.
"It would be more of an eye for an eye and a tooth for tooth," he warned.
