An Accra High Court has thrown out a case brought by some 1,300 ex-servicemen who dragged the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) to court for wrongful dismissal.
Joined to the suit were the Chief of Defense Staff and the Attorney-General.
Justice Lorinda Owusu ruled on Tuesday, 21 November that the ex-soldiers who served between 1977 and 1983, failed to establish a clear case against GAF, and, so, their reliefs cannot be granted. Subsequently, the case was dismissed.
They were seeking an order that each of the affected ex-soldiers be compensated with an amount of GHS20,000 as damages for their unlawful release from active service, but the court did not grant that.
The former military men argued that GAF violated the terms and conditions of their recruitment as their dismissal did not follow due process.
