Asonomaso (Ash), Jan. 5, GNA - Mr Kofi Frimpong, Member of Parliament (MP) for Kwabre East, has called on tax collectors to cast their tax net wider to cover all businesses in the informal sector. There were, he said, a lot of workers and traders in the private sector who were not paying tax thereby depriving government of much needed revenue.

This situation, the MP said did not augur well for the development of the country.

Mr. Frimpong therefore, asked tax officers to be proactive and cast their tax nets wider to cover all sectors of the economy to enable government generate more revenue to develop the country. These were contained in his New Year message to his constituents in particular and the country in general.

The MP said the development of every nation depended on the amount of revenue it derived from taxes, pointing out that the development of every country therefore depended on the tax it was able to raise. He therefore called on religious leaders to impress upon their congregation the need for them to pay their taxes. Mr Frimpong also charged Ghanaians to work hard pointing out that hard work was a key to success. Jan. 05 06
