Castle Staff remanded for defrauding a traveller

Accra, Jan. 4, GNA - An Accra Circuit Tribunal on Tuesday, remanded in custody, Enoch Ampadu, Secretary to a Member of Council of State, for allegedly collecting 10,500 dollars from a traveller, under the pretext of securing travelling documents for her.

Ampadu, 38, pleaded not guilty to defrauding by false pretences and will appear again on January 12. An accomplice, Eric Quansah, a self employed, who is a friend of Ampadu's, is on the run. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Benedicta Akolgo told the tribunal chaired by Mrs Elizabeth Anderson-Yebuah that, the accused works at the Castle as a secretary to Mrs Mary Grant, a Member of the Council of State.

Chief Inspector Akolgo said the complainant, Ms Augustina Asare wanted to travel to America with her two children and informed her brother if he could get someone to help her. The Prosecutor said the brother contacted Ampadu, who agreed to assist and introduced Quansah to the complainant's brother.

The two accused persons collected the amount from the complainant, to enable them to process the necessary documents but failed to fulfil their promise, neither did they refund it. GNA
