Catholic Church inaugurates school at Yendi

Sang (N/R) March 30, GNA - The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Yendi, the Most Rev. Vincent Sowah Boi-Nai, has appealed to chiefs to release more land for the construction of schools. He said this would enable religious bodies to put up more schools to supplement the government's efforts.

The Bishop said the government and other stakeholders were spending a lot on education and there was the need for parents and guardians to encourage their children to consider education as a key priority to their future.

He said this when he handed over the St. Anthony Kindergarten and Primary School classroom block with an office and a store to Ghana Education Service at Sang in the Yendi Municipality. Most Rev Boi-Nai appealed to the chiefs and people in the area to cooperate with the school authorities to ensure that people do not encroach on school lands.

He expressed concern that some parents still refuse to send their children to school and rather use them to herd goats and sheep. Most Rev Boi-Nai said the school could admit 240 pupils and appealed to the Parent/Teacher Association that started the school with a shed to take good care of the school to grow. He said the Catholic Educational Unit would ensure that more schools were put up so that children do not travel long distances to attend school.

The Yendi Municipal Director of Education, Mr. Ziblim Nantogmah, reminded the people in the area that if they gave peace a chance there would be more development in education.

Mr. Nantogmah said whoever provided them with an opportunity to acquire knowledge had given them the key to the future with hope and appealed to the youth to take education serious because the Northern Region and the nation needed them as future leaders. The Resident Priest of Sang Catholic Church, the Rev Fr John Navaratnam, said the project was funded by Pontifical Society of Missionary Childhood based in Rome. He appealed to the Assembly members to use their influence to lobby the Municipal Assembly for teachers and more school projects for the Circuit.

The chief of the area, Sang Lana Abukari Musah, expressed his gratitude to the Catholic Education Unit for establishing schools at Sang, Nadule and Yankazia in his traditional area. He appealed to the government and Catholic Education Unit to put up more Schools in the area to enroll children who are not in school.
