Catholic Church ordains four priests in Kumasi

Kumasi, Aug. 18, GNA - New priests being currently ordained into the Catholic Church have been admonished to avoid "prophetic utterances" that only tend to break families and homes.

The Most Reverend Gabriel Yaw Anokye, Auxiliary Bishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Kumasi, who gave the advice, said, "You should not copy the unacceptable practices of so-called prophets and prophetess who only give divinations to cause rancour, disharmony and confusion in otherwise happy homes and families".

He was ordaining four Spiritan Priests at the Bantama Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

They are Reverend Fathers Simon Adu-Gyamfi, Anthony Ebow Afaako, Kofi Acheampong and Dominic Obese Asare.

Three of the young priests, all in their early thirties, had their theological studies at the Spiritan International School of Theology in Nigeria while the other attended the Catholic University of Central Africa, Yaounde, Cameroon. Most Rev Anokye urged the new priests to regard themselves as the cutting edge of evangelisation to bring more "souls" to the flock of God.

"You are also to shepherd the flock and guide them to greener pastures by giving them the word of God and not to disintegrate their families", he added.

The Auxiliary Bishop further advised the priests to avoid arrogance and dictatorship and in humility, accept criticisms to earn respect and honour from their respective congregations. Rev. Fr. Adu-Gyamfi, on behalf of the ordinands pledged to serve God, senior priests and the congregation.
