Catholics attend Eucharistic Congress in Takoradi

Takoradi, Oct. 17, GNA - Most Reverend John Martin Darko, Catholic Bishop for the Sekondi-Takoradi Diocese, at the weekend added his voice to the call on Christians to avoid all un-Godly practices that goes to tarnish the image of Christianity.

He noted with concern the "creeping into the Ghanaian society; widely a Christian society, vices like homosexuality". He was speaking at the first Diocesan Eucharist Congress in Takoradi at the weekend on the theme, "The Eucharist, Light and Life of the Church".

Bishop Darko announced that the Church would hold a National Eucharistic Congress from November 18 to 21 this year in Kumasi. He said the practice of homosexuality is against the teachings of the Church, which holds that marriage can only take place between a man and a woman.

He said homosexual marriages were taking place in some countries and hoped that this would not happen in the country.

Bishop Darko said corruption was on the increase in the country and people demanded financial favours before performing official duties. "There is human suffering, caused by injustice in all forms, all around us and most of them caused by people we call Christians," he observed. Bishop Darko said, "The Last Judgement will not ask us about the miracles and wonders we worked, because the devil also works it, nor speaking in tongues, since the devil knew of it before we did". He spoke against wickedness, cruelty, terrorism and indiscipline by individuals, groups or states and said people, who have no goodwill cause all these vices.

"The only driving force that motivates them is selfishness, misplaced pride and bad will".

He advised members to confess their sins and reconcile with one another before participating in the Eucharist.
