Sankpagla (N/R), July 11, GNA - A gang of cattle rustlers have invaded some communities in the Central Gonja District in the Northern Region and made away with a large number of livestock.

The affected communities include Sankpagla, Macheleya, Darivoguyili, Saankunyili, Ntereso, Jaramoayili and Fufulso. Mr. Adam Seidu, a spokesman for cattle owners in the district, who disclosed these at a press conference at Sankpagla on Friday, said the rustlers had stolen 614 cattle between 2007 and 2009. He called on the Regional and District Security Committees to as a matter of urgency assist them to form a task force to help the Police to check the movement of livestock from the area.

Mr. Seidu also advised the security agencies to check documents covering cattle transported out of the area saying "It is strange and unacceptable that with the existence of three checkpoints between Tamale and Buipe, the rustlers were able to carry out their nefarious activities without the notice of the Police for three good years". He said the rustlers operated mostly between Fufulso (Damongo Junction) and Adubiliyili where the district shares border with the Tamale Metropolis.

Mr. Seidu said he suspected that the rustlers were operating from Kintampo and Techiman in the Brong Ahafo region with their accomplices in Tamale and communities in the district. 11 July 09 Attention recipients, item 02 ends first cast.
