NPP guru tells supporters

The Eastern Regional chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Adi Ankamah has reminded both party members and non-members that the appointment of district chief executives (DCE's) is the sole prerogative of the President, Mr. J. A. Kufuor.

He therefore called on the public to cease filing petitions calling on the President to retain or replace these DCEs, to let the President appoint his own DCEs.

Nana Ankamah issued out the reminder at the People's Assembly held in Asuogyaman, Manya Krobo, Akuapem North and South and Suhum Kraboa Coaltar districts.

According to him, not a single day passes by without a single paper carrying a story on people petitioning for or against the appointment of someone as DCE.

He observed that such acts by party supporters, opposition members and the general public, disturbs the president as it does not give him the necessary peace of mind to work.

"Whether to retain a particular DCE or appoint a new DCE, he is the only one mandated by the constitution to do so and for that matter, let us allow him to study their records and make his choice in his better wisdom," Nana Ankamah explained.

Again, he used the platform to remind all that the people's assembly is not a political affair, therefore whoever has any party grievance should channel it through the proper procedure for investigation and decision.

All along in Akosombo, Odumase, Nsawam, Akropong, Somanya and Suhum where the forum has been held, the attendance was not very discouraging as people made contributions on education, health, transportation, energy, security and good governance.

The Eastern Regional Minister, Yaw Barimah made it clear that the president aims at projecting good governance, human resources development and private sector development, to help the youth acquire more knowledge and skills in ICT to earn a living.

He said these could be achieved through peace and humility, He therefore called on chiefs, opinion leaders and the general public to unite and assist the president to achieve these for the growth of the country.
