Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) yesterday donated equipment worth ?30 million to the University of Development Studies (UDS) and the Teachers Awards Scheme.
Two Compaq computers went to the UDS while the Ministry of Education received a 25 inches colour television set for the Teachers' Awards Scheme.
In a related development the bank on Saturday contributed ?50 million to the Northern Education Trust Fund.
The Managing Director of GCB, William F. Bray said the two donations to the educational sector are in fulfillment of the bank's social development policy.
Mr. Bray said as a good corporate citizen the bank's decision to assist the educational sector is in line with its recognition that a well-trained human resource is an essential ingredient for national development.
"We believe that a nation that can boast of a well-trained human resource will always be at the forefront of socio-economic development."
The MD observed that one way by which the management and staff of the bank can show appreciation to the country for their upbringing is to motivate teachers to do more than they are doing now.
Mr. Bray noted that in this era of information technology steps must be taken to provide the country's institutions with IT-based equipment for training the future workforce. GCB will launch its 2001 annual report later in the month.
