The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Sheikh I.C.Quaye and the Regional Police Commander had one common feature running through their speeches -discipline - when they spoke during the opening ceremony of the Accra Central Police Station Central Mosque yesterday.

The minister as chairman of the function condemned the attitude of some Muslim youth in the society whose behaviour he said cast the image of the religion in bad light. The religion has no room for such appalling behaviour he said. Muslims he went on must love one another for according to him it is not enough to pray five times a day without complementing these with good deeds.

Islamic clerics and opinion leaders he said must strive to bring back the lost youth on to the path of righteousness.

The Greater Accra Regional Police Commander, Dr. Manfo who was part of the ceremony called for tolerance between the various religions and warned that the Police administration would not allow any religious group to breach the peace.

The Central Police Station was built in 1916 and has been without a mosque since then even through the majority of the Gold Coast Constabulary were Muslims from Northern Nigeria. The commissioning of this mosque built through the Islamic Council for Humanitarian Services with funds from a Kuwaiti NGO is of historical importance to the Ghana Police Service. The ceremony attracted both Muslims and Christians from both within and without the Police Service.
