Central Region Beats 'em All To The Internet

Cape Coast Central Region today became the first region to be marketed on Internet, the world-wide network Information Superhighway. This followed the hooking of the Central Regional Development Commission (CEDECOM) and its Integrated Development Programme (CERIDEP), the first UNDP project in the country, to the Internet. Internet currently has an estimated 40 million users and it is estimated that there will be 150 million users by the turn of the century. Speaking at a ceremony to mark the occasion at the Centre for National Culture (CNC) in Cape Coast today, Mr Francis Arko, Executive Secretary of CEDECOM, said Internet has presented the region with a quicker and cost effective approach to market its tourism potential to the international market. Internet will enable CEDECOM/CERIDEP to provide investment information to the potential investor who may be thousands of kilometres away. CEDECOM and Central Region will for the first time be able to articulate and promote its potentials to the largest possible global audience that have potential interest in visiting Ghana or doing business in the country, he said. Mr Arko said another benefit to the region is that potential trading partners and investors can research and communicate with CEDECOM and get accurate and up to date information about the region.
