The Central Regional Minister, Mr Kwamena Duncan, has commended the security services for their dedication towards ensuring security in the country at all times.
He said with the recent increase in crime rate around the country, the task of the security services had become enormous, adding that their commitment towards combating the crime rate was admirable.
“It is, therefore, expedient that they are given the necessary support so they can carry out their mandated responsibilities well,” he said.
Mr Duncan, who was speaking at the 2017 Central Regional Police Annual West African Security Social Activity (WASSA) in Elmina last Thursday, reminded the police of the arduous task ahead of them with the rollout of the National Identification Programme on Monday.
He indicated that there was the need for the police to ensure they were up to the task, since they were deployed to every facet of the economy such as banks, markets and durbars among others, to ensure security.
Commitment
Mr Duncan reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing security institutions with the necessary resources such as vehicles and communication gadgets to enable them to perform efficiently.
He commended the Central Regional Police Command for its professionalism and visionary leadership.
Land guards
The Central Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Mr Paul Manly Awini, said the Police Command was engaging chiefs and elders, real estate developers and other stakeholders of communities affected by the activities of land guards to address the potentially volatile land problems before they escalated.
He added that the command was also employing hard police tactics to deal ruthlessly with the criminal activities of land guards.
“The activities of land guards particularly in areas within the Gomoa Fetteh enclave has attracted our interventions to prevent the criminals, some of whom are armed, from causing havoc to life and property,” he noted.
Training
DCOP Awini said as part of efforts by the police to help build the capacity of the detectives in the region, the command, in collaboration with the Police Administration, had organised training programmes for some of the detectives to sharpen their skills.
He commended hardworking personnel of the service for their excellent work in the region saying, “I congratulate all hardworking personnel at various intersections and accident prevention squads on the highways who have to work under very challenging conditions but yet gallantly carry out their duties, especially during the rush hours of the day.”
DCOP Awini cautioned all personnel to desist from lawless acts and other behaviours that contravened the codes that governed their functions and conducts as police officers.
“I wish to sound this word of caution to all personnel that the command will not compromise on matters bothering on discipline,’’ he added.
