A Fiapre Circuit Court has sentenced a 27-year-old chainsaw operator to 10 years imprisonment in hard labour for defiling a 14-year-old class six pupil at Abesim in the Brong Ahafo Region.

Nana Kwame Osei pleaded guilty and was sentenced on his own plea by the court presided over by Mr. Benjamin Yaw Osei.

Police Chief Superintendent Frederick K. Agyei, prosecuting told the court that on April 27, this year the victim attended a youth convention at the Catholic Secretariat in Sunyani with her friends.

He said on their way, they met the accused who identified himself as a participant in the convention.

The prosecutor said the accused told the victim that he was returning to Abesim to take a piano and requested the victim to accompany him, and that when they reached his house he invited the victim into his room and defiled her.

The prosecutor said after the act, the convict locked the door and kept the victim in his room throughout the night.

He said other attendants noted that the victim failed to attend the convention and notified the police.

The prosecutor said the victim appeared at the convention the following day and narrated her ordeal to the church authorities who reported to the police and a medical form was issued for her to attend hospital.

He said the medical report indicated that the victim's hymen was broken, with blood stains in her pants.

The police arrested the convict from his hideout and after investigations charged him with the offence.
