Charge approved fares or face legal action-Drivers warned

Tamale, May 19, GNA - Commercial drivers operating in the Northern Region have been warned to desist from charging above the approved fares or face legal action. A statement issued in Tamale on Friday by the GPRTU and signed by Alhaji Amadu Lamusah, Regional Chairman of the Northern Region Secretariat of the association said following the upwards adjustment of fuel prices by the Natioanl Petroleum Authority (NPA), some commercial drivers in Region had increase fares above the approved fares. It said failure to comply by this order would result to legal action taken against the offenders.

Tamale, May 19, GNA - Commercial drivers operating in the Northern Region have been warned to desist from charging above the approved fares or face legal action. A statement issued in Tamale on Friday by the GPRTU and signed by Alhaji Amadu Lamusah, Regional Chairman of the Northern Region Secretariat of the association said following the upwards adjustment of fuel prices by the Natioanl Petroleum Authority (NPA), some commercial drivers in Region had increase fares above the approved fares. It said failure to comply by this order would result to legal action taken against the offenders. The Secretariat further appealed for the cooperation of the public and urged them to report any driver found charging above the approved fares issued by the Secretariat as at April 5, 2007. Meanwhile, the GNA chanced on a taxi driver with registration number AS 455A, in a serious confrontation with a passenger for over-charging the passenger leading almost to a fight. The driver argued that he would not be compelled by any authority to reduce his fares in the wake of the fuel increase. 19 May 07
