The free kidney dialysis program under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) officially began on Sunday, December 1, 2024.
To start, 20 health facilities have been accredited to provide free dialysis treatment for kidney patients in the country.
According to Dr. Dacosta Aboagye, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), these accredited health facilities are not allowed to charge patients for dialysis treatment, as it is now fully covered by the NHIS.
The 20 accredited health facilities are currently located in 10 regions across the country.
In addition, GH¢200 million has been disbursed for claim payments to support free dialysis for kidney patients at health facilities.
