The District Chief Executive for Chereponi, Alhaji Issah Seidu Abah, has said the district has for the past three years benefited from 21 projects under the schools-under-trees project as part of the present government's Better Ghana Agenda.
He said the projects were funded from various sources including Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) and District Assemblies Common Fund in the various communities.
Alhaji Abah said the GETFund projects which were six-units with office cost GH¢180,000 while those funded by the District Assembly which were three-units cost GH¢52,000.
The DCE was speaking to pressmen in Chereponi on Wednesday on the sidelines of a durbar organized by the Campaign for Female Education (CAMFED), an NGO to share the success story it had chalked in collaboration with other stakeholders in education.
Alhaji Abah said a total of 12,000 free school uniforms and 700,000 exercise books had been distributed to students while the only Senior High School, Chereponi Senior High had been given a boarding status with other facilities provided to meet the boarding status.
The DCE said the only polyclinic in the district provided by the current government had been upgraded to the status of a hospital that was currently providing accessible healthcare to the people, adding that an ambulance had equally been provided for the hospital through the instrumentality of the Member of Parliament.
He said mechanized pipe water had also been provided to give the people access to quality water supply, while ten boreholes were being sunk.
Alhaji Abah said, a number of road projects had been rehabilitated with eight communities connected to the national grid, and that 15 more communities will soon be connected through the rural electrification project.
He however appealed to the Assembly Members to inculcate in the people the need to take good care of the facilities provided by the government since those facilities belong to them.
Mr. Samuel Abdulai Jabanyite, Member of Parliament for Chereponi, said he had linked up the district with some development partners to provide various development projects for the benefit of the residents.
He encouraged the people to embrace education as the pivot of development that cut across all aspects of their lives, saying that the district would continue to join hands with NGOs and other development partners to bring about the area's transformation.**
