The New Juaben Municipal Chief Executive, Dr Kweku Owusu Acheampong, had ordered the stoppage of work on the construction of a petro filling station at a flood prone area near the Kassadjan road bypass roundabout at Effiduase in the New Juaben Municipality.
The Municipal Chief Executive also ordered work to stop at the filling of a plot of land for construction to begin at an area demarcated for the collection of excess rain water, near the Koforidua Guest Hotel and also ordered the stoppage of a number of construction works going on, along the buffer zone of the Kassadjan road between the SSNIT Flats and the Effiduase Roundabout.
Dr Acheampong ordered the owners of the projects to produce building and other permits from the Environmental Protection Authority (APA).
The Municipal Chief Executive gave the order when he took the technical committee of the Works Committee of the Municipal Assembly round some parts of the Municipality to have a firsthand information about constructions works going on in those areas.
Answering questions from the media, who accompanied him, Dr Acheampong explained that, the Municipal Assembly would be relying on professional advice from the Works Committee of the Assembly on the projects that he had stopped and that those projects that meet all the building regulations of the Assembly would be permitted to continue while those that do not meet the expected conditions would be stopped.
The Municipal Chief Executive later visited the former Koforidua –Ho lorry park, where work is expected to start in July this year to upgrade the area.
The Municipal Chief Executive said, the Assembly would construct a three story building to provide stores, ticket booths, waiting room and place of convenience.
He said the whole area would also be paved.
Dr Acheampong said, currently, the Assembly is constructing stalls for the secondhand clothing dealers and also relocating the squatters at the place for work to start.
