A delegation of Chief Farmers from the Eastern Region, have donated a number of treated mosquito nets and solar rechargeable lanterns, worth hundreds of Ghana Cedis, to the Regional Minister, Mr Antwi-Boasiako Sekyere.
The donation was to help the Regional Minister to reach out to the destitute, expectant and nursing mothers, especially those in deprived communities, where there is no electricity.
The donation was made when the delegation led by the Regional Chief Farmer, Nana Obeng Akrofi, paid a courtesy call on the minister at his office in Koforidua, to introduce themselves to him, congratulate him on his new position and to wish him well.
Making the donation, Nana Akrofi said, activities of farmers are the basic economic cushion for the nation, and must be recognized as such.
He, therefore, encouraged the minister to make farming activities his top priority.
The Regional Minister thanked and praised farmers for their economic contributions to the nation’s development, saying, it is in recognition of this that a day has been set aside to reward them annually.
He re-affirmed government’s commitment in assisting all farmers to promote Agriculture, and thereby the development of the region and nation as a whole.
He said government has sourced a loan to construct roads in cocoa-producing and farming communities, to help make life comfortable for the people, and cited the Eastern Region as a beneficiary.
Mr Antwi – Boasiako entreated the farmers to rally behind government, as it supports them to have their fair share of the national cake, to help make their profession more lucrative and attractive.
