Mumford (Central Region) 9th July '99 A suggestion has been made to the Frequency Allocation Board and the National Media Commission to make the broadcast of home news in both English and local languages obligatory for all radio stations in the country.
Nana Akraman Effirim, Chief Fisherman of Mumford, said at Mumford on Thursday that to make it easy for the stations, they must be made to broadcast the national news bulletin of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation.
He noted that two of the main functions of the electronic media - educate and inform, are being sacrificed for only entertainment and music by some of the radio stations.
Nana Effirim said because of this, vital information, which should get to the people, does not reach them because they would be listening to music on some of the FM stations.
He said because people do not listen to news, about their own country, they tend to believe any rumour adding that Ghanaians would become more enlightened when they are kept abreast with news and events in and around the country.
