Chief Justice Appoints Interdicted Fordjor

A MAN, who is on interdiction, awaiting the outcome of investigations into a ?50 million embezzlement case, has been re-appointed as a Deputy Financial Controller in the Judicial Service by Mr Justice E. K. Wiredu, Acting Chief Justice.

The man, Mr George K. Fordjour, is to resume work today Monday, September 3.

Mr Fordjour's appointment, fraught with suspicion, comes at a time when a report of a Parliamentary investigation into the ?50 million case, discovered while the man was on secondment from the Accountant General Department to the Judicial Service, is yet to be made available for study by the Service.

The bizarre nature of the appointment is deepened the more, by its irregular nature, as the appointment letter, which should have been signed by the Judicial Secretary, was signed by the Acting Chief Justice, himself, in contravention of the regulations governing such appointments.

According to the regulations (L.I. 319), it is the prerogative of the Judicial Secretary, who should have signed the letter that is, on appointments of auxiliary staff, with the Chief Justice dealing with those for top executives, like judges.

Although sources close to the Judicial Secretary are tight-lipped on the reasons for this anomaly, it is strongly believed that the officer refused to sign the letter because of the absurdity of the action, especially so, when Mr Fordwor is yet to be cleared in the investigations.

Apart from that, there are many in the system who are surprised at the urgency attached to the appointment, which has become the subject of gossip on the corridors of the Service.
